
Avon’s Jordan Williams (23) had a game-high 17 points as the Falcons beat Southington Thursday for their second straight win.
SOUTHINGTON, Feb. 11 – The defense paid off Thursday night for the Avon High boys basketball team. For the first time this season, the Falcons won back-to-back games with a 58-50 win over Southington in Central Connecticut Conference play. Avon (4-13) beat Hall, 66-64 one night earlier in CCC Central White contest.
The Falcons (4-13) allowed Southington just 13 points in the first half as they built a 33-13 halftime lead. The Knights turned the ball over 17 times and struggled against Avon’s defensive pressure. Avon led by 20 after three quarters, 47-27 before the Knights surged in the fourth quarter to close the gap.
Avon was led by Jordan Williams with 17 points while Bryan LaChance added 15 points. Riley Welter contributed with 10 points.
Against Hall, the Falcons led by eight after one quarter and extended the lead to 11 at halftime and 14 after three quarters. Avon was able to hold off Hall’s fourth quarter rally to earn the win. LaChance led the Falcons with 19 points while Ian McDonald added 14.
The Falcons return to the floor with three games next week. Avon travels to Maloney on Tuesday night, hosts Bulkeley on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and hosts Windsor on Friday at 7 p.m.
