AVON, April 8, 2016 — Avon High senior Riley Strassner and junior Kyle Emery earned All-State honors in boys swimming this past fall. Strassner and Emery were also among the 11 Avon High athletes to earn All-Central Connecticut Conference honors for their play this winter.
Strassner earned All-State honors in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle while Emery was recognized in the 100 backstroke.
Strassner finished sixth in the 100 free at the State Open with a season-low time of 47.56 seconds and eighth in the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:43.11.Emery took ninth in the 100 backstroke in 54.71 seconds.
At the Class M championships, Strassner was third in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle while Emery was second in the 100 backstroke.
Nine Avon High athletes were honored for their play in wrestling and girls basketball in the CCC. The Falcons had no All-Conference selections in hockey or indoor track. Three players from the Farmington Valley Generals co-op team (Farmington, Avon, Windsor, Lewis Mills) were recognized but none were from Avon. The Generals did win the CCC South Tournament title.
