
Avon’s Sean Del Gallo was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the Falcons’ win over Farmington Friday.
AVON, April 29 – The Avon High baseball team scored seven runs and had 10 of their 12 hits in the final two innings to erase a three-run lead and rally to beat Farmington, 9-5 in a CCC Central White contest at Buckingham Field Friday.
It was the fourth straight win for Avon (7-3, 3-1 CCC Central White), which trailed 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning. It was the first-ever CCC baseball game between the two neighboring rivals.
Ian McDonald led off the bottom of the fifth inning for Avon with a double and scored on Sean Del Gallo’s RBI triple. Del Gallo scored on an error to cut the Farmington lead to one run, 5-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, Avon had six hits. With one out and Andrew LeDuc at first base, Del Gallo singled. Both scored on Justin Olson’s two-RBI double to centerfield to give Avon its first lead of the game at 6-5. Olson moved to third base on Jeremy Zarwanski’s single and Olson stole home to give the Falcons a two-run lead. Matt Boone and Will Boone each had RBI doubles to swell the lead to four, 9-5.
Avon pitcher Connor Harris had a flawless seventh inning to earn the save for the Falcons. Olson picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound, going six innings, scattering eight hits and striking out four. He walked three.
McDonald and the two Boone brothers were each 2-for-4 with doubles. McDonald had a double and a triple in the game. Del Gallo was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI while Olson was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Zarwanski drove in two runs for the Falcons.
Farmington (5-6, 2-2 CCC Central White) was led by Brian Loehe, who was 2-for-3 with a double. Pitcher Broos Milhalek was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI for the Indians.
The two teams will meet again in the regular season finale on May 23 at Farmington’s Tunxis Meade Field under the lights at 7 p.m. Avon hosts Bulkeley/Weaver on Monday at Buckingham in their next outing.
