Three Canton basketball players earn All-State honors

CP basketball graphicCANTON – It was a fine season for the Canton High basketball programs this winter.

The boys basketball team won 17 games and lost the NCCC Tournament championship game on a 40-foot shot at the buzzer that banked off the backboard and in. The girls basketball won their first-ever state championship in March with a win over defending champion Thomaston.

Three players earned All-State honors. For the first time, two Canton girls – Maggie Treacy and Emily Briggs — made the All-State team in the same season Cameron Lange also earned All-State honors becoming the first Canton boy since Andrew Crowley in 2010 to earn All-State honors. Thirteen Canton players earned All-NCCC honors for their play in the athletic arena.

Treacy became the fifth girl in school history to score more than 1,000 points when passed that plateau in December. Treacy averaged 17.2 points per game for the Warriors this season and led the team in three-point goals with 49. She pulled down 6.2 rebounds per game and had 5.4 steals per game.

Briggs, a junior, averaged 19.3 points per game for the Warriors. She became the sixth girl to score more than 1,000 points in final game of the regular season in a win over SMSA.

Lange, a senior, averaged 15.4 points for the Warriors (17-8) and surpassed the 1,000 point barrier in a 67-44 win over Putnam in the Class S tournament. Lange, who finished with 1,021 career points, is the fifth Canton player to score more than 1,000 points in his scholastic career. Always the first in the gym and last to leave every single day over his four years,” Canton High coach Craig Archambault said. “He has spent countless hours at CHS, Valley Sports Center, and in his driveway working on his game.
