With 14 hits, Falcons beat Bulkeley/ Weaver for 8th win and CIAC berth

AVON, May 5 – Between all of the rain this week, the Avon High baseball team finally got a baseball game in. The Falcons had 14 hits and five doubles in a 9-3 CCC Central White decision over Bulkeley/Weaver at Buckingham Field Thursday.

With the victory, Avon (8-3, 3-2 CCC Central White) clinches an invitation to the CIAC Class L tournament for the ninth straight season. Avon has qualified for the CIAC baseball tournament in 15 of the last 16 years.

Chris Jacobs led the Avon offense with a 3-for-4 performance and one RBI. Kyle Emery had a single, double and two RBI while Andrew LeDuc had a single, double and one RBI. Ian McDonald was 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.

On the mound, Will Boone went five innings to earn the win, allowing just one hit and striking out seven. Boone is now 2-2 on the year.

Avon had a busy week next with four games in five days. The Falcons host Fermi-Enfield on Monday at Buckingham Field in the final game between the two schools. Fermi is closing in June and will merge with Enfield High in September.

On Tuesday, Avon travels to Bristol Central. On Wednesday, the Falcons will travel to Windsor for a CCC Central White game with the Warriors. Avon closes out the week by hosting Hall-West Hartford on Friday, May 13 at 3:45 p.m. The Hall game was rained out twice this week.

Northwest Catholic has control of the CCC Central White race with 4-0 record after the first round of play in the division. Avon (3-2), Farmington (2-2) and Windsor (2-2) each have two losses in the division. There is no CCC baseball tournament.
