Rebels handcuff Crushers in 9-1 decision

Crushers hat small DSC_2821TORRINGTON, June 19 – Torrington Rebel hurler Dan Livingston pitched nine innings, struck out 10 and allowed just five hits to lead the Rebels to a 9-1 win over the Canton Crushers at Fuessenich Park Sunday night in Tri-State League play.

The Rebels (7-1) rapped out 16 hits and received hits from nine different players. Robert Santiago had a pair of doubles for Torrington while Cody Lemieux had three hits. Chris McKenna and Nick Yousefzadeh each had a single and double for the winners, who remain 1½ games behind league-leading Watertown and Terryville, who are both 9-0.

Canton hurler Jim Spirito struck out nine over eight innings and took the loss. Canton’s Taylor Riley hit his first Tri-State League home run with a shot off the left field light post. It was the second consecutive game that the Crushers hit a home run.

Chris Van deBogart doubled for Canton while Jon Scippa and Jake Bryant each had singles. The Crushers return to action on Tuesday when they take on Naugatuck (8-1) on the road at 7:45 p.m. at Rotary Field. On Sunday, Canton will face the Burlington Hunters (1-8) at Lewis Mills at noon.
