BERLIN, July 21 – Avon Little League’s Major Division (ages 11-12) All-Star team will play for a spot in the four-team state championship final Friday night when they face Berlin in the Section II title game at Petit Field at 5:45 p.m.

The four section champions qualify for the double-elimination state final at Dettore Field in Manchester beginning on Wednesday, July 27.

District 6 champion Avon (8-3) won its Section II opener with an 8-1 victory over Prospect on Tuesday night. Berlin (10-0) dominated Prospect, 11-1 on Wednesday night. On Thursday, Berlin outslugged Avon, 8-7 as both teams played with an eye on Friday’s championship game. The top two teams in the three-team Section II play in the final,

Avon is looking for its first appearance in the state finals since 2012 when they were swept by Fairfield Americans, 9-0 and 10-0. In 2012, Avon was the first District 6 team since 1979 to play for a state title and the opportunity to earn a spot in Bristol at the Eastern Regional tournament.
