Informational meeting on proposed Canton lights will be Tuesday night

Canton hosted its first-ever night football game at the high school Friday night against Lewis Mills.

Canton hosts first-ever night game at home in November 2013 against Lewis Mills using portable lights.

CANTON, Oct. 24 – An informational meeting on the Canton Board of Education’s proposal to install permanent lights around the football and track and field complex at the high school will be on Tuesday, October 25, at 7 p.m. in the Canton Community Center in Room B.

Residents with questions can contact Lisa Jones, interim director of Finance and Operations at [email protected].

The town’s Planning and Zoning Commission will consider the BOE proposal for permanent lights at a special meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Canton Community Center.

The school district has filed an application to install lights on four poles – two 80 foot poles on the west side of the field and two 90-foot poles on the east side. Games would end at 10 p.m. but there would be exceptions (overtime) that could keep the action on the field until 11:30 p.m.

The field opened in October 2013 and there have been night games contested using portable gas-powered lights.
