AVON, Nov. 9 – Jade Strassner had two goals as the No. 11 Avon High girls soccer team captured their opener in the Class L tournament Wednesday with a 4-2 decision over No. 22 Wethersfield at Fisher Meadow.
It was the third and fourth goals of the season for Strassner, who had two goals in Avon’s previous 16 games. Chloe Dugan and Elle Parry also scored for the Falcons, who improve to 12-4-1 on the season.
Madison Sides made five saves in net to secure the victory. Avon has won six of their last eight games, including a 3-2 win over Wethersfield on Oct. 21. The Eagles received goals from Bianca Tate and Katherine Welchel. Wethersfield goalie Mariana Carcia made nine saves.
The Falcons advance to the second round of the Class M tournament on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at No. 6 Pomperaug in Southbury. The winner advances to Sunday’s quarterfinals against the winner of the match between No. 3 St. Joseph-Trumbull and No. 14 Mercy-Middletown.
