MANCHESTER, Nov. 4 – Canton junior Max Sparks has one race left in the 2016 cross country season. Sparks will be running at New England cross country championships on Saturday at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, Rhode Island.
Sparks earned All-State honors by finishing 20th at Friday’s State Open championships at Wickham Park in Manchester with a season-best time of 16:27 over the 3.1 mile course. There were 177 runners who finished the race.
The Canton High girls cross country team participated in the State Open for the first time since 1996 and finished 18th in the field of 21 teams, led by Emily Briggs, who finished 49th with a time of 20:36 – 15 seconds off her season-best time from a week ago at Wickham Park in the Class SS championship race.
The Avon High girls cross country team ran in the State Open for the fifth time in the last six years. The Falcons finished 19th, led by Emily Foley with a time of 20:20.
