CANTON, April 7 – Gavin Wood was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and three RBI to lead the Canton High baseball team to their second straight victory with a 14-1 NCCC victory over Sport Medicine Science Academy Friday afternoon at Bowdoin Field.
The Warriors (2-0, 2-0 NCCC) had 13 hits in the game. First baseman Ethan Burke was 3-for-5 with a double and one RBI for Canton while Brandon Peters was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Jack Mansur was 2-for-4 with a double while James Mattson added a double for the Warriors.
It’s the most runs in a single game for Canton since they had 15 runs in a 15-1 win over Public Safety Academy in last June’s CIAC Class S tournament.
Pitcher Brandon Peters pitched up the win, going 5 1/3 innings, scattering four hits, allowing just one run and striking out six batters. Reliever Braedon Bean struck out three Tiger batters.
Michael Velez was 2-for-3 with a double and single for SMSA (1-2, 1-1 NCCC).
Canton took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, sparked by a two-RBI single from Wood and a RBI single from Nate Fulham. Peters had a RBI double in the sixth inning for the Warriors.
The Warriors return to the diamond on Monday when they travel to Coventry.
