
Avon starting pitcher Justin Olson had a no-hitter through six innings Monday against Plainville. He struck out seven before giving up a hit in the seventh inning.
AVON, April 24 – Avon High senior Justin Olson pitched six innings of no-hit baseball, striking out seven and leading the Falcons to a 4-2 Central Connecticut Conference win over Plainville Monday at Buckingham Field.
Olson had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning but was lifted after giving up a double to Plainville’s Jordan Bishop. But Avon’s Connor Harris was able to retire the side on 11 pitches to secure the save and lift Avon to their third straight victory.
Avon (3-2) took a three-run lead in the third inning. Olson doubled with two outs and scored on Brendan Dyer’s RBI single. Dyer moved to second on Jeremy Zarwanski’s single. Both players scored on Chris Jacob’s two-RBI double to center field for a 3-0 lead.
Avon extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning. Avon’s leadoff hitter Adam Theriault tripled. He scored on a two-out RBI single to center field by Olson.
Avon returns to the diamond on Thursday when they tangle with Bulkeley/Weaver (2-2) at 4 p.m. at Dunkin’ Donuts Stadium in Hartford – the home of the Eastern League’s Hartford Yard Goats. It’s the first of three games at the new $71 million stadium for Bulkeley/Weaver.

East Granby 2, Canton 0
EAST GRANBY, April 24 – The Canton High baseball had 10 hits Monday but grounded into four double plays as East Granby took advantage of five hits and a few mental errors to escape with a 2-0 NCCC victory.
Nate Fulham (2-for-2), Jack Rose (2-for-3) and Tim Keating (2-for-3) each had two hits for the Warriors. But Canton stranded eight runners on base and hit into four double plays. Canton’s starting pitcher Ethan Burke (0-3) went the distance, pitching six innings, allowing five hits and striking out five.
East Granby (4-1) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Jacob Read, Jr., singled and made it to third base on a hit-and-run play. Christian Fagnant’s hit past second base put runners on first and third base for the Crusaders. Read scored on a passed ball.
In the sixth inning, East Granby added an insurance run. With one out, Wilson (2-for-3) doubled and eventually scored on a throwing error.
Canton (3-5), who has dropped four of the last five games and three straight, returns to the diamond on Wednesday traveling to Bolton for a 4 p.m. start. The next home game is Friday against East Windsor at 4 p.m. at Bowdoin Field.
