Two-out single in bottom of seventh lifts Windsor past Avon in opener

ORLANDO, Fla., April 11 – Kyle Louis’ RBI single to center field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Windsor High baseball team to a 1-0 win over Avon in the season opener for the Falcons Tuesday night at the Wide World of Sports complex.

Windsor and Avon are both spending the week training at the Atlanta Braves’ spring training facilities in Orlando.

Windsor’s Jeremy Nunes reached first base with a one-out single to left field. After Alexander Rosario flew out to center field for the second out, Nunes reached second base on a throwing error by Avon pitcher Justin Olson.

Olson got two strikes on Louis but the senior singled to center field to win the game for the Warriors (1-1).

Olson and Rosario went toe-to-toe in a good pitching duel. Olson went the distance, 6 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits and striking out eight. Rosario was a little bit better, giving up two Falcons hits and striking out 10 Avon batters.

Jeremy Zarwanski had a double for Avon while Kyle Emery had a single. The Falcons had few chances, stranding just four runners on base.

It will be a busy week when Avon (0-1) returns home from Florida. The Falcons have four games next week beginning with hosting Wethersfield on Monday at 3:45 p.m. at Buckingham Field followed by games on Wednesday against RHAM, on Thursday at Hall and on Friday at Conard.
