MERIDEN, May 19 – Pitcher Connor Harris scattered seven hits and struck out six to lead the Avon High baseball team to a 4-2 victory over Maloney in a Central Connecticut Conference game Friday.
The Falcons (13-5) made five errors behind Harris, now 5-0, and Avon played well enough to win for the sixth time in the last seven games. Harris didn’t walk a batter in the game.
Avon took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Kyle Emery singled and moved to second base after a walk to Ryan Ollestad. With one out, two runs scored on an error after a ground ball from Brendan Dyer. The Falcons took a 3-0 lead on a RBI triple from Chris Jacobs.
Maloney (10-7) cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the third inning thanks to an error and a RBI single from Tom Charest.
Avon added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a RBI single from Brendan Dyer.
Emery was 2-for-3 in the game while Dyer was 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Avon concludes the season next week with a pair of games on the road. Avon plays at Farmington on Monday night at Tunxis Meade with a 6 p.m. The Falcons finish the regular season with another night game at Southington on Tuesday night at Fontana Field at 6 p.m.
