Defending Zone 1 champion Avon opens Legion season with dominant win

TORRINGTON, June 8 – The Avon American Legion baseball team had 12 hits as Post 201 rolled to an 11-2 win over Torrington in the Zone 1 opener for both teams Thursday night at Fuessenich Park.

Avon (1-0, 1-0 Zone 1) scored seven runs in the first three innings and had 12 singles. Will Thramann was 3-for-4 with three RBI for Avon while teammates Sean Del Gallo and Jeremy Zarwanski were each 2-for-4. Zarwanski drove in three runs. Ryan Ollestad also had two hits.

Three Avon pitchers limited the host P-38s to just four hits and Kyle Emery, Connor Harris and Brady Williamson combined to strike out eight.

Avon, the defending Zone 1 champion, returns to action on Friday night when they host Bristol at Buckingham Park at 5:45 p.m. Post 201 travels to Southington on Sunday for a Zone 1 doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
