Naugatuck limits Crushers to just three hits in shutout victory

Pitcher Jim Spirito took the loss on the mound Thursday night as Naugatuck blanked the Crushers, 9-0 at Rotary Field.

NAUGATUCK, June 22 – The Naugatuck Dogs limited Canton to just three hits and struck out eight to beat the Crushers on Thursday night at Rotary Field, 9-0 in Tri-State League baseball action. The Dogs (8-2) scored four runs in the first inning and added another five in the fourth inning to take command of the contest.

Naugatuck pitcher Macky Cianciolo had a three-run home run in the first inning to lead the Dogs. Brendan Slattery, Christian Cuevas, Ryan Russell and Trent Levi each had RBI singles for Naugatuck.

Jake Bryant had a pair of doubles to lead the Crushers (2-8) while Juan Bisono had a single. Canton has lost five straight games and they face defending Tri-State League champion Watertown Sunday on the road at Deland Field.
