With season-high 16 hits, Avon Legion (11-1) cruises past Wolcott

Chris Jacobs was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI as Avon won their 11th game in 12 starts with a 12-1 Zone 1 rout over Wolcott on Monday.

WOLCOTT, June 26 – The Avon American Legion baseball team had a season-high 16 hits and six players with multiple hits as Post 201 rolled to a 12-1 rout over Wolcott in a Zone 1 contest Monday night.

The game was cut to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Joe Suski led Avon (11-1, 11-1 Zone 1) with a 3-for-3 performance including a double and two RBI. Chris Jacobs was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Brady Williamson was 2-for-2 with one RBI. Jeremy Zarwanski was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

Sean Del Gallo (2-3) and Justin Olson (2-4) each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Olson pitched a scoreless first inning to secure the win on the mound. Three Avon pitchers – Olson, Williamson and Del Gallo – limited Wolcott (6-7) to just two hits. Williamson pitched three innings.

Avon takes on second place Bristol (8-3) on Tuesday night at historic Muzzy Field beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Post 201 had a season-high 12 runs – the most they’ve scored in a single game since scoring a team-record 14 last June in a 14-5 win over Unionville. The 11-run margin of victory is ranked No. 3 on the most lopsided wins since the team was reformed in 2009. Avon beat Burlington by 13 runs in 2009 and topped Wolcott by 12 in 2014.
