
Avon’s Will Thramann was 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI triple in Thursday night’s Zone 1 win over Torrington.
TORRINGTON, July 6 – Sean Del Gallo continues to make things happen for the Avon American Legion baseball team. Del Gallo was 3-for-4 at the plate Thursday night at historic Fuessenich Park and stole four bases as Avon rolled to a 9-2 Zone 1 win over Torrington.
Del Gallo was 4-for-5 stealing bases against the P-38s. The only time he was caught is when he tried to steal home in the fourth inning. He stole second base four times.
Avon (15-3) continued their march toward a second straight Zone 1 championship with the victory. Post 201 needs to win five more games to win the pennant. Southington (14-4) is second with Bristol in third place with a 13-5 record.
Avon had 13 hits and three extra base hits. Jeremy Zarwanski was 3-for-4 with a double while Will Thramann was 3-for-4 with a RBI, a double and a triple. Joe Suski had a triple and swiped two bases. Avon was 6-for-7 stealing bases. Justin Olson didn’t have a hit but he a pair of sacrifice flies and drove in two runs.
Del Gallo began making things happen in the third inning. He singled to right field, stole second base and moved to third on a passed ball. He scored on Olson’s fly ball to left field.
In the fourth inning, Avon extended the lead to 3-1. Suski tripled and then Del Gallo walked. Both were safe on a double steal as Suski stole home and Del Gallo stole second base. Later in the inning, Del Gallo was thrown out at home.
Thramann had a RBI triple in the fifth inning while Zarwanski had a RBI single in the sixth. Brady Williamson scored on a passed ball in the seventh while Connor Harris had a RBI single.
Chris Jacobs allowed just three hits in three innings work to earn the win and improve to a team-leading 5-0 record. He allowed three hits and struck out one in three innings of work. Avon pitched allowed eight walks but were able to keep the P-38s at bay.
Avon has won 12 of the last 13 games between the two programs.
Avon returns to the field this evening when they face Winsted at Buckingham Field beginning at 4:30 p.m. The first game is the end of last week’s 0-0 tie at Walker Field that was suspended due to darkness. The game will resume in the top of the 10th inning. The regularly scheduled game follows at 5:30 p.m. or when the first game is completed.
