Granby erases 14-point halftime deficit but falls to Tigerhawks in overtime

football graphicGRANBY, Oct. 20 – Trailing by 14 points at halftime, the Granby High football team 22 consecutive points to take an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter. But the Sport Science Medical Academy (SMSA)/University High/Classical co-op football team rallied to tie the game and won it in overtime in a 48-40 overtime win in Pequot Uncas Division action.

Sam Attianese scored three touchdowns for Granby (2-4, 2-2 Pequot Uncas), including a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that gave the Bears a 40-32 lead. Attianese scored on a 13-yard touchdown reception from Jackson Rome and a 12-yard run in the second quarter.

The Tigerhawks (4-2, 3-1 Pequot Uncas) tied the game on a 42-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Young from quarterback Devin Hill and a two-point conversion pass to Young from Hill. In overtime, Young caught an 18-yard pass from Hill and added another two-point conversion reception for a 48-40 lead.

Young caught three passes for 70 yards and two TDs. Hill completed 18-of-25 passes for the Tigerhawks for 229 yards and three TD passes. He also threw three interceptions.

Granby QB Jackson Rome threw a pair of touchdown passes to Attianese and Andel Smith (36 yards). The Bears led 12-0 in the first quarter before the Tigerhawks scored back-to-back touchdowns to tie the game. The Bears took a 18-12 lead on Attianese’s 13-yard touchdown run.

But SMSA/University/Classical used some defensive pressure to score three unanswered touchdowns and take a 32-18 lead. Naseim Harrison (7 receptions, 113 yards) gave the Tigerhawks a 19-18 lead after he caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Hill and Hayden Jordan kicked the extra points.

Harrison intercepted a Rome pass and ran it back 94 yards for a touchdown. On Granby’s next possession, they fumbled the ball away and Devon Daniels scored on a 22-yard fumble return.

Jordan Rivera led the visiting Tigerhawks with nine tackles, a sack, a tackle for a loss and one forced fumble. Daniels had six tackles, a sack, one tackle for a loss and one forced fumble. Harrison added four tackles, two tackles for a loss and an interception.
