Balanced effort lifts Canton girls to dominating win over Stafford

Canton sophomore Lauren Eschenbrenner had 10 points to help the Warriors win their second game of the season with a 49-20 win over Stafford Tuesday night.

CANTON, Dec. 19 – The two-time defending Class S champion Canton High girls basketball team received a balanced effort with nine different players scoring points as the Warriors beat Stafford, 49-20 in a North Central Connecticut Conference contest Tuesday night.

Lauren Eschenbrenner and Allie Delsanto led the way for Canton (2-0, 2-0 NCCC) with 10 points each. Allison Celmer and Paige Brown did an outstanding job on the boards, pulling down 13 and 12 rebounds, respectively. The Warriors raced out to an early 11-0 lead and never looked back.

“It was nice to see everyone contribute in tonight’s victory,” Canton High coach Brien Medeiros said. The Warriors travel to Rockville on Wednesday night for their first-ever league encounter with the Rams, who joined the NCCC in September.

Canton returns home on Friday night when they host Granby at 7 p.m.
