BOLTON, January 22 – The Canton High girls basketball team has won the last two Class S state championships. The Warriors have found North Central Connecticut Conference pennants harder to win.

A year ago, the Warriors finished tied for second in the NCCC, three games behind Suffield which went undefeated at 16-0. In 2016, Canton was third behind Enfield (16-0) and Bolton (14-1). And in 2015, the Warriors shared the league championship with Avon (14-2).

But through 10 games this season, Canton is undefeated in the NCCC and in first place after a 39-29 win over second place Bolton Monday night.

Belle Magna had 15 points while Abby Charron added 10 as the Warriors (10-3, 10-0 NCCC) snapped a two-game losing streak.

Bolton (9-4, 8-2 NCCC) was led by Kiera Francis with seven points and the Bulldogs slipped into a third place tie in the league with East Windsor. Granby (9-2, 7-1 NCCC) moved up into second place.

Canton has another tough game on Wednesday night when they host contender East Windsor (10-4, 8-2) at 7 p.m. at the high school before closing out the week with a road game at Hartford Classical.
