Brett Muni (10) had 13 points in Wednesday night’s loss to Simsbury as Avon lost for the third time in four games.
SIMSBURY, January 24 – Avon High boys basketball Kris Pedra and his Falcons knew this week would be a challenge – three games against teams with winning records and at least eight wins each.
Coming off a big win over rival Farmington on Friday night, the Falcons couldn’t keep the momentum going in a 51-44 loss to Bristol Central on Monday night despite 11 points each from Brett Muni and Jordan Williams. Central improved to 9-3 with the victory.
On Wednesday night, Simsbury got off to a good start and beat the Falcons, 56-50 in a CCC West Patriot contest. Justin Matthews led a balanced Simsbury attack with 14 points with Jackson Butler scoring 13 points and Ralph Gilliard added 12.
Muni and Harris each scored 13 points for Avon while Welter added 11 points. Simsbury (10-1) held leading scorer Jordan Williams to just four points. It was the third loss in four games for the Falcons.
And on Friday night, Avon (6-5) travels to Manchester (9-3) with the contest beginning at 6:45 p.m.
“We knew this was going to be a tough week for us,” Pedra said. “The players we have on this always play hard and it starts with our seniors and goes from there.
“We played tough in both games but unfortunately, turnovers have plagued our team in the last two losses,” he said. “We need to focus more on taking care of the ball. We are a good team when we focus on defense and taking care of the basketball.”
