Canton tops Somers for 10th straight win, moves into first place in NCCC

CANTON, February 2 – Luke Brown had a game-high 25 points including six 3-point goals as the defending NCCC champion Canton High boys basketball team moved into first place in the league with a 56-47 victory over Somers Friday night.

Canton (14-1, 12-1 NCCC) won their tenth straight game while Rockville (11-4, 10-1 NCCC) suffered their first-ever conference loss in a 62-53 defeat to Windsor Locks. Rockville is playing in the NCCC for the first time after more than 30 years in the Central Connecticut Conference.

The Warriors have three league games remaining beginning with East Granby on Wednesday, NCCC-newcomer Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA) on Friday, Feb. 9 and Rockville on Tuesday, February 13.

Canton returns to the hardwood on Saturday night with a test on the road against Avon (8-5). It will be the 113th meeting in the series that began in 1960. Avon has won 14 of the last 15 games in the series, including a 68-55 victory a year ago.
