
Head coach Reggie Tucker and his Gladiators won the NCCC Tournament title for the first time Saturday night with a win over Granby.
GRANBY, March 3 – Classical Magnet’s three All-NCCC basketball players Tyreice Woods, Robert Simmons and Danny Campbell combined to score 41 of the Gladiators’ 50 points as Classical won their first-ever NCCC basketball tournament Saturday night with a 50-47 victory over Granby.
Down by three after three quarters, the visiting Gladiators scored 20 points in the decisive fourth quarter to earn the championship. Woods led No. 5 Hartford Classical (17-6) with 15 points while Simmons and Campbell had 13 points each.
It was Classical’s second consecutive visit to the NCCC Tournament final. The Bears were looking for their first tournament pennant since 2006.
No. 3 seed Granby (15-8) was led by All-NCCC forward James Shelansky with a game-high 23 points, three 3-point shots and 10 rebounds. Jonathan Bystrowski added 14 points, five assists and a pair of three-point shots for the Bears.
