College roundup: Rowan’s Daley wins decathlon at Osprey Open

Canton’s Cam Daley, a junior at Rowan University, won the decathlon at the Osprey Open earlier this month in Galloway, N.J. Daley won the event with 5,532 points and finished first in the shot (36-6.25, discus (108-0) and javelin (164-0).

Rowan is currently ranked third in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national team computer rankings.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE: Despite 13 saves in goal from Avon’s Paige Hammick, the Sacred Heart University women’s lacrosse team dropped a 16-11 decision to Wagner on Sunday. The Pioneers slip to 2-12 on the year and 2-3 in Northeast Conference. Hammick had seven saves in Sacred Heart’s latest victory – a 17-4 win over Central Connecticut State earlier this month.

BASEBALL: Canton freshman pitcher Peter Myers made his first start for the University of Hartford baseball team in the Hawks’ 6-5 loss to Quinnipiac in 10 innings on Tuesday. Myers went 3.1 innings and gave up three runs, one run and a walk. He struck out one.

In his previous appearance against Rhode Island on April 18, Myers pitched three innings of relief, allowing four hits and three runs with three strikeouts. Myers is 0-0 with a 6.38 ERA in 18.1 innings of work. He has given up 20 hits and eight walks while striking out 11.

In Quinnipiac’s 6-5 win over Hartford, Canton senior Chris Enns (0-3, 8.55 ERA) pitched 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed four hits, three runs and a walk while striking out two. Quinnipiac improves to 19-20 with the win while the Hawks slip to 14-24 on the year.
