
Hartford’s Mylz Jones was 1-for 4 with one RBI as the Yard Goats won their second straight Eastern League game on Friday night with a 8-5 win over New Hampshire.
MANCHESTER, N.H., April 13 – Hartford second baseman Garrett Hampson was 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI as the visiting Yard Goats had a season-high 11 hits to beat New Hampshire Friday night in Eastern League action, 8-5.
It was the second straight win for the Yard Goats, who dropped their first six games of the season, including four straight to the Fisher Cats last week in the opening series of the year. It was opening game of the season for the Fisher Cats.
Hartford (2-6) scored four runs in the fifth inning to snap a 3-3 tie. It was Hartford’s most productive offensive inning of the season. Brian Mudell, Sam Hilliard and Mylz Jones each knocked in runs to help the Yard Goats drive New Hampshire starting pitcher Nick Tepesch (1-1) out of the game.
New Hampshire scored a pair of runs off Hartford reliever Jason Garcia to cut the lead to two runs, 7-5 in the sixth inning. But Yard Goats catcher Dom Nunez had an RBI single in the seventh, driving home Brendan Rodgers to give Hartford an 8-5 lead.
It was the third RBI of the game for Nunez, who was 2-for-3 at the plate. Hampson was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Hartford.
Hartford’s Jesus Tinoco pitched five innings for the Yard Goats, scattering six hits and striking out three to earn the win. New Hampshire pitcher Nick Tepesch, who has made 44 Major League starts (Rangers, Dodgers, Twins), took the loss.
Hartford led 3-0 after two innings. In the first inning, Hampson led off the game with a double and went to third base on a bunt single by Yonathan Daza. Hampson scored on a grounder by Brendan Rodgers to give Hartford a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Nunez drove in Rodgers with a solid single to right field for a 2-0 lead.
The Yard Goats added a run in the second inning for a 3-0 lead on Hampson’s RBI single, scoring Bobby Wernes.
The Yard Goats continue their two-city seven game road trip and play the second of a three-game series against New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m.
