Mattson wins fifth game as Warriors top East Windsor for 12th victory

CANTON, May 23 – Pitcher James Mattson allowed just six hits, struck out seven and walked four to lead the Canton High baseball team to a 6-4 win over East Windsor in the regular season finale for both teams Wednesday at Bowdoin Field.

Mattson went the distance to improve to 5-0 on the season. With runners on first and second base in the top of the seventh inning, freshman Nate Lincoln got two strikeouts to secure the win and earn his first save of the season.

The game was tied at 3-3 when the Warriors (12-8) took a 6-3 lead. Mattson (2-for-4) singled and moved to second base when Jack Rose walked. Mattson scored on Ryan Enns’ RBI single. Rose and Enns scored on Matt Rose’s two RBI single to center field.

The Warriors also hosted Senior Day activities honoring the five seniors in the program – Enns, Jack Mansur, Colin Curan, Luke Brown and Cam Gaudet. Enns and Mansur each singled while Gaudet had a double.

Canton stole seven bases, led by Mattson with three stolen bases. Michael Sullivan was also 2-for-4 with one RBI and two stolen bases for Canton, which returns to the diamond on Tuesday, May 29 in the CIAC Class S tournament.

Canton’s 12 wins is the most regular season victories in head coach Greg Brisco’s five years behind the bench and the most since going 14-4 in 2010.
