Avon maintains spot in first place with victory over Wolcott, 6-4

Avon’s Miles Borenstein was 3-for-3 with two runs scored as Post 201 won their fifth straight Zone 1 game with a 6-4 win over Wolcott.

WOLCOTT, June 27 – No. 9 hitter Miles Borenstein was 3-for-3 while teammate Chris Jacobs was 3-for-4 with a double as the Avon American Legion baseball team rapped out 13 hits and beat Wolcott, 6-4 for their fifth straight Zone 1 victory on Wednesday night.

Dylan Nastri and Connor Harris each had doubles for Avon (9-2, 8-1 Zone 1), which remains alone in first place in Zone 1. Justin Olson had a leadoff home run in the first inning for Avon. It was his first home run of the season.

Will Boone pitched four innings and got the win on the mound for Avon. Jake Coppen pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief while Jacobs struck out the final two batters in the seventh inning to earn his second save of the year.

Avon returns to action on Thursday when they travel to historic Muzzy Field and face Bristol (8-2, 6-2 Zone 1) in a 7:30 p.m. start.

Bristol has lost two of their last three games – both to Winsted. On Wednesday night, Post 43 pitcher Ryan Sholtis went the distance on the mound for Winsted, giving up three hits, striking out three and walking three to earn the victory. Kevin Sullivan was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for Winsted, which has won four straight games.

Plainville scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie their Zone 1 contest with Simsbury and went onto earn a 5-4 decision in nine innings. Simsbury (9-2, 5-2 Zone 1) has lost two straight after winning their first nine games of the season.

Avon 12, West Hartford 2 (5)
WEST HARTFORD, June 27 – Max Raha was 3-for-4 with two RBI while teammates Brayden Nemarich was 2-for-3 with one RBI as the Avon Junior Legion baseball team (Under 17) beat West Hartford, 12-2 in five innings in a Zone 1 contest.

Avon (7-4) had 10 hits in the victory. Gage Doorman was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Emmett Borenstein also had a double for Avon.

Pitcher Arjuin Grover pitched 3.1 innings, didn’t allow a hit and struck out three to earn the victory on the mound.
