Erie catcher hits three home runs in 12-0 rout of the Yard Goats

Pitcher Jack Wynkoop lost his sixth game Tuesday night against Erie.

HARTFORD, June 12 – Home cooking didn’t help the slumping Hartford Yard Goats on Tuesday night.

The Eric Seawolves hit five home runs at Dunkin’ Donuts Park to beat the Yard Goats, 12-0 in Eastern League action. It was the fourth loss in the last five games for Hartford (29-33), in the first game of a six-game homestand.

Erie catcher Jake Rogers had three home runs and drove in four runs as the Seawolves beat Hartford for the fourth straight time. Erie starting pitcher Kyle Funkhouse allowed just three hits over six innings and earned his second win of the season.

The Seawolves, the Double A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, scored seven times in the second inning off Yard Goats starter Jack Wynkoop, now 2-6 on the year.

Erie’s Danny Woodrow began the rally with an RBI triple before Rogers belted a two-run homer.  Harold Castro and Sergio Alcontara followed with singles and Will Maddox cracked a two-RBI double.  Dominic Ficociello capped the frame with a two-run home run.

Rogers had a solo home run in the fifth inning and his third of the game in the ninth inning.

Hartford had just four hits with Brendan Rogers hitting his 14th double of the season.
