STAFFORD, Sept. 14 – Stafford/East Windsor/Somers overwhelmed Canton on Friday night in a 41-8 Pequot Uncas Division contest. Stafford QB Colton Engel ran for a game-high 120 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries as the Bulldogs raced out to an early 35-0 lead.

Julian Rivas also ran for a pair of touchdowns for Stafford/East Windsor/Somers (2-0, 1-0 Pequot Uncas).

The Warriors (0-2, 0-1 Pequot Uncas) were led by quarterback Dugan Lloyd, who completed 10-of-19 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown. Lloyd threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to receiver Colin Mackin in the third quarter. Joey Fitzgerald ran for the two-point conversion for Canton.

Lloyd had a team-high 60 yards on the ground while Fitzgerald gained 14 yards on five carries. Colin Mackin returned four kickoffs for 70 yards while Max Klinkert recovered a fumble for the Warriors.

The 33-point victory was the largest win by the Bulldogs over Canton in the series’ long history, topping the mark of 32 points set in Stafford’s 2011 victory. The two teams first began playing each other in 1938 and the Warriors own a 9-5-2 edge in the series.

It was Canton’s 13th straight defeat under the lights dating back to 2014 when the Warriors beat Enfield.

Canton returns to action on Friday night when they travel to Coventry to face the Coventry/Windham Tech/Bolton/Lyman Memorial co-op team in another Pequot Uncas contest.
