RHAM shuts out winless Avon; Cromwell/Portland dominates Lewis Mills

Avon’s Dan Quick (20) gained nearly 70 yards in Saturday’s loss to RHAM.

HEBRON, Sept. 22 – Seamus Queen ran for a pair of touchdowns as RHAM moved to 3-0 for the first time in school history with a 35-0 CCC Division III victory over Avon Saturday afternoon. Quarterback Cal Redman had a pair of touchdown passes for the Sachems (3-0, 2-0 CCC Division III East) while kicker Dan Grenier was 5-for-5 on the afternoon.

Dan Quick led the Falcons with 68 yards rushing on nine carries. Leading rusher Jadon Folkwein left early in the game after hurting his leg. He didn’t return. That left the bulk of the running to Quick, Francisco Longo and quarterbacks Tim Del Gallo and Quandrell Stewart.

“Dan probably got four or five yards a carry. He just kept muscling through,” Avon coach Jeff Redman said. “(Linemen) Chris Chute and Henry Schrecengost kept blasting away. But they were tough yards (for Quick) because he was getting every time but he just kept those feet going. He was as tough as nails.”

RHAM coach Robert Rubin was impressed with Avon’s effort and the fact they kept competing hard throughout the contest.

Avon (0-3, o-2 CCC Division III East) returns to action on Friday night when they host Northwest Catholic in their first home game of the season under the lights at 6:30 p.m. as part of Spirit Week activities at Avon High.
