WINDSOR LOCKS, Oct. 19 – Chelsea Mitchell scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season on Friday as the Canton High girls soccer team won their eighth game of the year with an 2-1 North Central Connecticut Conference win over Windsor Locks.

Alison Celmer scored her fourth goal of the year for the Warriors, who improved to 8-6 on the year – one win shy of the school record of nine wins in the regular season. Canton went 9-6-1 over a decade ago in 2007.

The single season record for wins in a season is 11. The Warriors won two games in the CIAC Class S tournament in 2007, advancing as far as the quarterfinals  that season.

Canton trailed 1-0 at halftime on a goal from Windsor Locks’ Casey Findlay with seven minutes in the first half. Mitchell scored with 15 minutes in the second half and Celmer scored about seven minutes later for a 2-1 advantage.

The Warriors close out the regular season with a pair of home games on the field turf at Canton High. East Granby (10-4) will be in town for a 7 p.m. start on Tuesday with Canton closing out the regular season by hosting Somers (6-5) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
