SUFFIELD, January 18 – Two underclassmen had career-best performances Friday night to help the Canton High boys basketball team win for the fourth time in five games.
Sophomore Ryan McGoldrick came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points, including three 3-point goals, to lead Canton to a 51-46 victory over Suffield Friday night in North Central Connecticut Conference play.
Junior Chris Tenczar chipped in with 13 points as the Warriors earned their fourth straight win over the Wildcats dating back to the 2017 season. It is the longest string of success against Suffield since winning eight of nine games from 2005-10.
David Danek had a game-high 26 points for Suffield (5-6). The Warriors limited Suffield to just 12 points in the first half thanks in part to steals from Tenczar and some hard-nosed defense by the Warriors. Jack and Matt Rose did a nice job on Suffield’s Jared Lobo, who finished with 15 points. Lobo didn’t get many open shots in the contest.

Canton (7-4, 6-3 NCCC) led by 13 points lead after three quarters and was able to withstand a fourth quarter run by the Wildcats to earn the victory.
The win enabled Canton to capture two of three games this week. On Wednesday, Canton dropped a 43-41 decision to Ellington on a basket in the last 10 seconds of the game. Grant Lange had 17 points for the Warriors while Matt Rose added nine points.
On Monday, Canton easily rolled over SMSA 53-41. The Warriors led 27-15 at halftime and extended the lead as much as 23 points in the second half. Lange led the way for Canton with 19 points while Matt and Jack Rose each had seven points each.
The Warriors return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to face Bolton.
