Three athletes win three events each to lead undefeated Canton girls

COVENTRY, April 9 – Helena Winkler, Chelsea Mitchell and Madeline Archangelo each won three individual events while Maya Sutton-Hall won two events to help lead the undefeated Canton High girls track and field team to three victories on Tuesday.

Canton improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the NCCC with victories over Coventry, 101-45, Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA), 120-14 and Parish Hill, 133-9.

Winkler swept the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter races while Archangelo captured the 100 hurdles, high jump and pole vault. Mitchell won the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump. Sutton-Hall prevailed in the 200 and 400 meter races.

In the boys competition, Canton (3-2, 2-2 NCCC) lost to Coventry, 81-68 and easily beat HMTCA, 111-10 and Parish Hill, 108-12.

Canton’s Brandon LaClair won four events, taking the 100 meters, javelin and pole vault (8-6) and the 200 meters. LaClair, Coventry’s Jacob Krause and Chase Prentiss each crossed the line in 24.50 seconds to finish in a three-way tie for first place.

Matthew Barton (1,600) and Andrew Obrzut (400) also won individual events for the Warriors.
