
Avon’s Jake Coppen was 2-for-4 as the Falcons won their third game with a shutout win over Hall.
WEST HARTFORD, May 6 – Avon’s Blaise Engle pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out 11 to lead the Avon High baseball team to a 6-0 shutout win over Hall-West Hartford in Central Connecticut Conference West action.
Jake Coppen, Miles Borenstein and Ben Angus each had two hits for the Falcons, now 3-10. Borenstein and Angus were each 2-for-3 while Coppen was 2-for-4. Engle improves to 2-3 on the season. The Falcons stole six bases in the game, including two from Tabor Engle.
Avon took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Max Raha and Coppen reached on singles with Raha moving to third base on Coppen’s single. Coppen soon stole second base. Raha scored on a wild pitch and Coppen moved to third base before scoring on Zach Aiello’s RBI single.
In the fourth inning, Avon loaded the bases with two walks and a single from Angus. Coppen singled to left field but two runs scored on an error by the Hall left fielder to increase the lead to 4-0.
Avon returns to action on Thursday when they host No. 5 Southington (12-2) at Buckingham Field at 3:45 p.m.
