
Canton’s Jim Spirito had the only hit in the Crushers’ 3-0 loss to Southington Thursday in Tri-State League action.
SOUTHINGTON, May 23 – Southington pitchers Alex Stackpole and Patrick Raymond combined to strike out seven batters and limit the Canton Crushers to just one hit to earn a 3-0 Tri-State League baseball victory on Thursday evening at Recreation Park.
Southington (1-1) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. They loaded the bases with three walks and pushed across two runs with a pair of infield hits. The 66ers added a third run in the sixth inning with a solo home run from Vic DeSimone.
Canton’s Jim Spirito went the distance on the mound for the Crushers (1-1), allowed just three hits and striking out three. He walked six. Spirito also had Canton’s lone hit – a two-out single in the second inning.
Canton returns to action on Tuesday, May 28, when they take on the Bristol Greeners at Muzzy Field at 5:45 p.m.
