Avon wins third CCC division title in four years; ties for 3rd at CCC championships

NEW BRITAIN, May 30 – Hall’s Mac Mahoney tied for medalist honors and teammate Will Hutensky finished in the top 10 as Hall High nipped East Catholic by a single stroke to win the Central Connecticut Conference boys golf tournament at Stanley Golf Course.

Hall finished with 302 with East Catholic coming in with a 303. Defending tournament champion Avon and Simsbury finished tied for third with a 304.

Avon’s Mike Hanratty was the medalist, winning the tournament in a playoff over Mahoney. Both shot a 70 on the par 71 Stanley Golf Course.

The Falcons (16-4-1, 9-2-1 CCC West) won their third divisional title in the four years they have been in the Central Connecticut Conference, edging out Simsbury (10-4, 9-3 CCC West) for the CCC West pennant.

Avon split with Simsbury during the season but the difference was Avon’s battling to a 161-161 tie with Southington on May 9 that gave the Falcons just two losses in the league. Simsbury had three. Avon captured CCC Central titles in 2016 and 2017.
