AVON, June 24 – The Avon American Legion baseball team gave up a season-high 16 hits as Berlin completed a three-game sweep of Post 201 with a 9-4 Zone 1 victory on Monday evening at Buckingham Field.
Post 68 took a doubleheader from Avon on Sunday and with Monday’s victory, Berlin improves to 7-2.
Berlin’s Daniel Veleas was 4-for-5 with a double and one RBI while teammate Mike Giove was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Justin Piskorski was 3-for-5 for the winners.
For Avon (4-9, 4-6 Zone 1), Jake Coppen was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Justin Hasler was 2-for-3 while Max Raha went 2-for-4 and extended his season-opening hitting streak to 13 games. Avon has dropped four of their last five Zone 1 contests.
Avon’s next scheduled game is Sunday, June 30 when Post 201 challenges West Hartford at Hall High beginning at 1 p.m.
