Tri-County hands Avon Legion a second loss

Avon’s Miles Borenstein had one of Avon’s five hits in a 8-0 non-zone loss to Tri-County on Tuesday.

MARLBOROUGH, June 4 – Pitcher Sean Casey scattered five hits and struck out four to lead the Tri-County American Legion baseball team to a 8-0 non-zone win over visiting Avon on Tuesday night.

Casey went the distance to earn the shutout, throwing just 88 pitches. Teammate Jack Turco was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. John Linares was 1-for-4 with one RBI.

For Avon (0-2), Max Raha was 2-for-3 while Miles Borenstein, Nick Amatulli and Emmett Borenstein each had singles. Post 201 had just five runners left on base.

Avon returns to action on Friday when they travel to Torrington’s Fuessenich Park for a non-zone game against the P-38s beginning at 7 p.m. Three-time Zone 1 champion Avon opens the Zone 1 campaign on Sunday when they host Newington at 11 a.m. at Buckingham Field.
