Undefeated Newtown remains No. 1 in the state field hockey coaches poll for the second consecutive week as the Nighthawks finished the regular season undefeated with a 4-0 win over Masuk on Monday.
Newtown (16-0) is one of three teams left in the state who are undefeated and untied. No. 2 Guilford, who received a first place vote, is 14-0. Wethersfield (13-0) is ranked 12th.
The Nighthawks face Joel Barlow on Saturday in the first round of the Southwest Conference tournament at 4 p.m. The semifinals are Tuesday with the championship set for Thursday.
Guilford closes out the regular season on Wednesday night at Haddam-Killingworth. Guilford opens the SCC Tournament in the quarterfinals on Saturday when they host Hamden. SCC semifinals are Tuesday with the final on Thursday.
The state tournament begins Monday, November 11.
