Thanks to a 1-0 win over then-No. 5 Immaculate-Danbury, Newtown remained undefeated and moved into the top spot in the weekly top 10 field hockey coaches poll.
Newtown (13-0) is one of three undefeated teams in the top 10 as the Nighthawks become the third No. 1 team in three weeks. Two weeks ago, New Canaan was No. 1 before Darien moved up to No. 1 last week.
But the Blue Devils dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 3 New Canaan last week to slip to No. 4.
Guilford (12-0) remains the top seed in Class M with another dominating performance in an 8-0 win over Enfield on Saturday.
Granby remains the Farmington Valley’s lone representative in the top 10. The Bears improved to 9-0-1 on Monday following an 8-0 win over Stafford.
