AVON, Nov. 3 – The Avon High volleyball team has already secured their first championship banner since 2005 by winning the CCC West championship title this fall.
Now, the Falcons are looking to win a conference tournament for the first time. Avon (17-1, 10-0 CCC West) is the No. 2 seed in the 16-team Central Connecticut Conference tournament that begins on Monday.
No. 2 Avon will face No. 15 seed Berlin (9-11) on Monday night at 5 p.m. in Avon. If they Falcons, advance, they will face either No. 7 East Catholic or No. 10 Platt on Tuesday in the quarterfinals in Avon.
The semifinals and the championship match will be in Avon and the Falcons are looking to be playing on their home court. The top seed in the tournament is Bristol Eastern (18-0), the only team to beat the Falcons this season and the only team to win a single game from the Falcons.
In each of Avon’s 17 victories, the Falcons prevailed by 3-0 sweeps.
