Crushers end season with a win over the Vipers

WATERBURY, July 24, 2022 – Steve Dubois and Nick Michanczyk each had a double and one RBI as the Canton Crushers ended their season with a 6-1 Tri-State League win over the Brass City Vipers Sunday at Bucks Hill Park.

On the mound, Jim Michanczyk allowed just two hits and struck out six in five innings work to earn his fourth win of the season. Scott Sperl, Matt Rose each had RBI singles for the Crushers, who finish with a 6-12 record – the most wins in a single season for the team.

Canton did drop three one-run decisions this season and one two-run decision.

Coming into the weekend, Canton did have a narrow path to the playoffs if the Vipers dropped games to Burlington, the Valley Thunder Ducks and Crushers. But Brass City clinched the tenth and final spot in the Tri-State League playoffs with a 10-4 win over Burlington on Saturday. Brass City also beat the Ducks, 7-6 in extra innings in the conclusion of a game suspended earlier this season.
