AVON, Oct. 24, 2022 – Braden Gilbey scored two goals in the first 4:21 of the game to help the Avon High boys soccer team beat Enfield, 2-1, in a Central Connecticut Conference game Monday in the rain on the turf outside the high school.
The Falcons (7-4-3) won for the third time in the last four games. Trevor Moretti and Matias Monteiro had assists for Avon while goalie Buster Akers earned the win with four saves.
Avon returns to action on Thursday by traveling to South Windsor.

Lewis Mills finishes third in Division II
BRISTOL, Oct. 24, 2022 – Despite the cloudy weather and rain, the Lewis Mills boys golf team had four of five golfers shoot in the 80s to help the Spartans finish tied for third at the CIAC’s Division II fall boys golf championship meet at Chippanee Country Club.
Mills finished in a three-team tie for third place with Berlin and Bethel. Pomperaug won the state title with a six-shot win over St. Joseph-Trumbull. Mills, Berlin and Bethel were 10 shots off the pace.
Aidan Carrano and Eli Pelletier each shot an 11-over-par 81 while Mills’ teammates Max Dinunzio shot an 83 with Liam O’Sullivan shooting an 84.
Avon finished tied for ninth place with Blake Barrett earning a top 10 finish by taking fifth place with an eight-over-par 78.
Northwest Catholic’s Cole Banning, who won the Central Connecticut Conference title last Thursday, won the CIAC Division II title with a one-under-par 69. He beat Luke Brower and Daniel Casanta of Pomperaug by six strokes.

AVON, Oct. 24, 2022 – Paola Ortega had 12 digs and Hollis Ryan had six kills but the Farmington girls volleyball was able to earn a 3-0 sweep over Avon in CCC West action. The River Hawks (8-10) prevailed 25-20, 25-14, 25-13. The Falcons slip to 5-12 on the season.
