Spikers fall to Southington; Avon booters blank South Windsor

SOUTHINGTON, Oct. 27, 2022 – Avon High senior Jocee Powers had 19 digs but it wasn’t enough as Southington swept the Avon girls volleyball team, 3-0 on Thursday night in the final game of the season for the Falcons.

With the 25-11, 25-13, 25-13 defeat, Avon finished the season with a 6-13 record.

Powers finished the season with 402 digs and 801 digs in her career – both school records.

Southington improves to 16-2 and will be the No. 2 seed in the CCC Tournament that begins on Saturday. The Blue Knights will be hosting No. 15 Lewis Mills in the first round.

Buster Akers made 11 saves in net for the Falcons (8-4-3), who handed South Windsor (11-2-2) their second loss of the season.
