
Simsbury’s Faye Kaplinski (25) had just two points Friday night but she had 13 rebounds and six blocks to help the Trojans beat East Hartford.
Two weeks ago, the Simsbury High girls basketball team lost their leading scorer, Lauren Sabia, to a knee injury in a win over Conard.
The Trojans didn’t and haven’t given up on their season. The day following the injury, Simsbury beat Shenendehowa, N.Y., one of the top teams in New York State, 53-52 in overtime.
When they returned to Connecticut, Simsbury beat E.O. Smith, 39-31 and outlasted Southington, 49-44 in triple overtime. The Trojans stumbled in a 34-28 loss to Newington on Monday night but are back on the winning track again after a 32-26 win over defending Class LL state champion East Hartford in Simsbury on Friday night.
Olivia Jarvis had 18 points to lead all scorers with Amanda Gallagher chipping in with eight points. Faye Kaplinski had 13 rebounds, five assists and six blocks for the Trojans, now 14-3 on the season.
Simsbury gave up 12 points in the first quarter to the Hornets (9-6) and 14 points in the remaining three quarters.
Simsbury returns to action on Monday night when they travel to West Hartford to take on Northwest Catholic.
