Simsbury’s Reece Willison had seven points as the Trojans moved into the CCC Tournament semifinals with a win over Bristol Central on Saturday.
The Simsbury High girls basketball team played some tough defense Saturday in the Central Connecticut Conference tournament against Bristol Central.
The Trojans gave up just 14 points through the first three quarters as the Trojans cruised to a 56-33 win over the Rams in the CCC Tournament quarterfinals at Plainville High.
No. 4 seeded Simsbury (18-4) advances to Tuesday’s semifinals against top-seeded Newington at 8 p.m. at the University of Hartford’s Chase Center Family Arena.
Olivia Jarvis led all scorers with 19 points with five Simsbury teammates hitting three-point shots, including the Gallagher sisters, Amanda and Alexa, who each had a pair of three-point shots. Jarvis pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds while Faye Kaplinski scored eight points, pulled down 10 rebounds, blocked seven shots and had seven assists.
It’s the first time that the Trojans have won multiple games in the CCC Tournament since 2000 when Simsbury went 3-0 to win the tournament. It was also head coach Sam Zullo’s 150th win as coach. He is now in his tenth year leading the Trojans after taking over in 2013-14.
