It will be a heck of a road trip to get to the Premier Hockey Federation’s championship game.
The PHF announced on Thursday that their 2023 championship game will be at Mullet Arena on the campus of Arizona State University in Temple, Arizona on Sunday, March 26, at 9 p.m., EST. It will be broadcast on ESPN2.
The Connecticut Whale are among four teams that have qualified for this year’s Isobel Cup playoffs. The Minnesota Whitecaps, Toronto Six and two-time defending Isobel Cup champion Boston Pride have also qualified.
The semifinals will be a best-of-3 series in Toronto and Boston on March 16-20.
The regular season ends this weekend with the Whale in Minnesota for two games with the Whitecaps. Connecticut needs one point in two games to clinch third place.
A year ago, Connecticut, in their first finals appearance, lost to Boston in a one-game final for the Isobel Cup championship, 4-2, in Wesley Chapel, a small town outside of Tampa, Florida.
The NHL’s Arizona Coyotes and OVG360, a venue management company, are partnering with the league to host this year’s game in Tempe. In addition to managing and operating the Mullett Arena, AZ, OVG360 also manages and operates the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, home of the PHF’s All-Star game in February.
This will be the first time the Isobel Cup final will be played on official NHL game ice, The Isobel Cup final will take place after the Coyotes’ afternoon game against the Colorado Avalanche.
“As we continue building momentum for our sport in the new PHF era, it’s important to strengthen relationships in different markets and grow the game by showcasing professional women’s hockey to more fans throughout North America,” PHF commissioner Reagan Carey said.
“The Coyotes are extremely proud of our support for women’s hockey and our Arizona Kachinas program, and we look forward to watching the league’s top teams compete for the cup,” Coyotes CEO Xavier A. Gutierrez said in a statement.
