Connecticut’s Katerina Mrazova is playing for Czechia at the women’s world hockey championships in Canada.
Ten players from the Premier Hockey Federation are on the rosters of teams in the 2023 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) women’s world championship tournament that will be held in Ontario, Canada on April 5-16.
Connecticut Whale forward Kateřina Mrázová is one of five players on the Czechia roster along with Toronto’s Dominika Lásková and Tereza Vanišová, Minnesota forward Denisa Křížová, and Boston defender Aneta Tejralová.
Mrázová is on the national team for the sixth time and helped her country with a historic bronze medal winning team at the 2022 event in Denmark.
Hungary has three PHF players with Montreal defender Taylor Baker, and Metropolitan forwards Réka Dabasi and Fanni Gasparics. Metropolitan defender Sarah Forster is competing with Switzerland, and Boston forward Becca Gilmore is suiting up for the United States.
The tournament begins with a preliminary round-robin with 10 teams in two, tiered, five-team groups. Group A consists of the top-five ranked nations in Canada, USA, Czechia, Switzerland, and Japan. Group B includes Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Germany, and France. All five Group A teams and the top-three Group B teams will qualify for the quarterfinals.
The majority of players on the Team USA and Canadian rosters are from the rival Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association, which had four teams that play round-robin weekend events throughout North America.
