Avon track teams pick up first victories of the season

AVON, May 3, 2023 – Senior Isaiah Adams won four individual events to help the Avon High boys track and field team earn their first win of the season with a 102½ to 43½ victory over Northwest Catholic on Tuesday.

Ying Ying Cheng, Katelyn Cifaldi and Ainsley Evans each won two events as the Avon girls track team also picked up their first victories of the season over NW Catholic and Miss Porter’s. The Falcons (2-3) had 119½ points with NW Catholic earning 28½ and Miss Porter’s picking up two.

Adams, a two-time All-American wrestler who will attend Harvard in the fall, swept the 100 and 200 meter races along with the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles races. Adams set a new school with his winning time of 40.62 seconds in the 300 hurdles and had the No. 6 fastest time in school in history in the 100 hurdles (16.38) in his first attempt in the race. His time of 11.35 in the 100 meters was the second fastest in school history.

William Lancaster swept the 800 and 1,600 meters for the Falcons (1-3) with Nate Machlus winning the long jump and triple jump.

Atticus Putt (400), Ethan Sloat (3,200), Ryan Christopher (discus), Carter Davies (pole vault) and Teja Lakamraju (high jump) also secured individual event victories.

On the girls side, Cheng won the 800 and 1,600 meter races with Cifaldi taking the 100 hurdles and triple jump. Evans captured the discus and javelin for Avon. Cheng’s time of 2:26.03 in the 800 meters was the ninth fastest in school history.

Natalie Ith (100), Emma Loparco (400), Lauren Edge (300 hurdles), Sara Trautman (3,200), Candace Graves (shot) and Yasmin Rensch (high jump) picked up individual wins for the Falcons.

Loparco’s time in the 400 of 1:01.31 was the No. 9 time in team history in the event with Cifaldi’s time of 17.65 in the 100 hurdles checking in as the No. 10 best time in school history.
